Pool cage and lanai rescreening in Venice.
Venice asks us about screen far more than about steel. The homes here are older, the frames are usually sound, and the mesh is what has given up — which makes most of these jobs a fraction of what people expect.
Venice, specifically
Older homes, sound frames, tired screen. That combination is good news for your budget.
Most Venice cages we look at do not need replacing. The aluminum on a well-built 1980s or 1990s enclosure is often still solid; what has failed is thirty years of Florida sun on the mesh, and sometimes the finish. A rescreen and a refinish give you back a cage that reads as new for a fraction of replacement.
On Venice Island and toward Casey Key the calculation changes, because salt air gets into the fasteners and the anchors. Those are the cages where we check the connections before quoting anything cosmetic.
The Gulf breeze cuts both ways. It is why the lanai is the best room in a Venice house, and it is why no-see-um mesh comes up more here than inland — the tighter weave keeps out the midges that a standard 18/14 screen lets through at dusk.
What we do in Venice
Four jobs, in the order worth considering them
Cheapest first. It is the order that has kept us busy since 2017.
Full rescreen
Phifer 18/14 fiberglass, no-see-um, pet-resistant or Perfect Screen polyester. New spline, not the old one.
Panel repair
One or two torn bays. If the rest of the screen is tight, one visit and you are done.
Painting & restoration
Thirty years of sun takes the finish too. Wash, rust treatment, hardware, refinish.
Replacement
Only when corrosion has gone through the anchors. On most Venice homes it has not.

How much does rescreening cost in Venice?
Quoted individually. The size of the enclosure, the mesh you choose, the height and access, and the condition of the spline grooves all move the number.
It is almost always a fraction of replacement, and on the older Venice homes replacement is rarely what is needed.
Should I use no-see-um mesh in Venice?
If you are near water and the midges get through at dusk, yes. It is a tighter weave than standard 18/14 fiberglass, and it comes up far more here than in inland Sarasota.
The trade is slightly less airflow. Many homeowners use it on the elevations facing water and standard mesh on the rest.
My cage is from the eighties. Does it need replacing?
Usually not. A well-built cage from that era often has sound aluminum — what has failed is the mesh and sometimes the finish. Rescreening and refinishing bring it back for a fraction of replacement.
The exception is the coast. On Venice Island and toward Casey Key we check the fasteners and anchors before quoting anything cosmetic, because salt air works on the connections first.
Do you cover Nokomis, Osprey and Englewood?
Yes, all three, plus North Port and Casey Key. Our shop is on Sarasota Center Boulevard, and south county is a normal day for us.
Do I need a permit to rescreen in Venice?
Generally no. Replacing screen on an existing, structurally sound enclosure is not permitted work. A permit is required when the frame is replaced or altered, and we pull that under CRC1334065.
